kntKenyan actors have a bone to pick with President Uhuru Kenyatta over the much awaited reopening of the Kenya National Theatre. The reopening was aborted at the last minute on Wednesday because Uhuru Kenyatta was not available to preside over the ceremony.

The theatre is set for reopening after it was renovated at a cost of Sh100 million courtesy of Kenya Breweries Limited as part of the Kenya @50 projects.

The pricey face-lift has seen the theatre get new seats, a lighting and sound system, soundproofed walls and a bigger stage.

Preparations for the reopening had been made in earnest including setting up of tents and decorations, before the event was called off abruptly. It has since been postponed to Saturday.

Thespians who have been locked out of the facility for 16 months, have cried foul over the prolonging on twitter. The Kenya Actors Guild started the hashtag #UhuruOpenKnt on Twitter to protest.
