Safaricom’s Corporate Affairs director, Stephen Chege has confirmed that the leading communication provider in the region is still on with its plan of launching their own TV station. Speaking to a local daily, Mr. Chege revealed that they are in the initial stages of discussions with content providers. He also added that they will responding more comprehensively on the type of content subscribers can enjoy once they have all the required licenses.
Head of Communications Authority, Francis Wangusi, has gazetted a notice for those wishing to object Safaricom’s entry into broadcasting industry to come forward within a period of 30 days. If the 30 days end without any objection, then Safaricom will get a green light into the competitive multimedia business.
