In some rather bittersweet news, American R&B crooner Ne Yo has been confirmed to perform in Nairobi for the grand finale of Coke Studio Season Three that will be held later in the year. The bitter part is that Kendrick Lamar will not be headlining the act as was speculated.
The tour will be Ne-Yo’s first Kenyan visit.
Ne-Yo, real name Shaffer Chimere Smith, was also one of the international acts who graced the MTV Africa Music Awards in Durban, South Africa in July.
During the awards, Ne-Yo particularly singled out Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz as one of the most talented African stars. It is however hoped that the Kenyan talent on show at the Coke Studio Africa 3 will leave him thoroughly impressed.
Coke Studio is a one of a kind music show that brings artistes from different genres, eras and regions together to create a modern and authentic African sound through musical fusion.
The latest season has brought together big African musical acts like Nigeria’s 2Face Idibia and Chidinma, Tanzania’s Ali Kiba, Vanessa Mdee and Fid Q, Kenya’s Avril, Jua Cali and Wangechi among others.
