This is an important poll since the country has just transitioned to Digital television, and the field has suddenly become overcrowded. However, there are no surprises as the usual players continue to dominate the airwaves.
Once again, Citizen TV is the clear leader on TV, commanding a massive 38.8% of all viewers. The gap between KTN and NTV continues to widen, and things are thick for the Kimathi Street guys.
KTN commands a 15% share to come in at number 2, while NTV completes the top 3 with 11.93%.
A curious entrant into the top 10 is Africa Magic, perhaps showing that GOtv is really pushing sales.
Citizen TV gets the most viewers throughout the day, but rubber stamps its authority during prime time. Between 7pm and 9:30 pm, the SK Macharia owned station is miles ahead of everyone in terms of viewers.
The script is no different for weekends, but on Sunday, NTV comes dangerously close to Citizen TV, all because of Churchill Show. It’s interesting to note that though the number drops at 9pm when the popular comedy show ends, a good number stays behind to watch Larry Madowo and Victoria Rubadiri read the news.
Compared to the January – April ratings, the top three stations have seen a considerable increase in their numbers, while K24 and KBC have seen a considerable drop. This is mainly due to the self imposed shut down.
Well, it was always going to be difficult for K24 and KBC to hold on to their positions.
