The Sunday night collapse of a residential building in Nairobi has put the spotlight on the Nairobi County government and in particular governor Kidero.
In November last year, the Business Daily published an article titled ‘Shoddy Nairobi buildings at high earthquake risk’. According to the article, a study done by Questworks, a design and engineering firm found that the quality of construction work is poor across Nairobi and a major earthquake would cause serious destruction of between 1,000 and 2,000 buildings.
Responding to the article, the Nairobi governor brushed it off as incorrect and alarming and yet buildings are still collapsing.
What would happen in the case of an earthquake if at all buildings are currently tumbling down on their own?
