Citizen TV, NTV and KTN had obtained court orders preventing both Startimes and GOtv from airing their content, claiming they were charging Kenyans for what was essentially free.
These are the same three channels that are seeking a digital broadcast licence from the Communication Authority.
This week’s fairly ambiguous ruling by the Supreme Court somehow gave the two platforms the right to resume airing the three channels. The court ruled that they had not infringed on the rights of the local stations by airing their content.
Startimes was first to interpret that ruling in their favour, announcing to their subscribers the good news via text message yesterday.
All LOCAL CHANNELS are back on StarTimes. Kindly renew your subscription to continue enjoying the best digital television service. Thank you for staying connected to StarTimes.
So far there has been no word from GOtv.
