Nairobi senator Mike Sonko has denied allegations that his gold chain cost Ksh 3 million. The extravagant senator was spotted over the weekend at Tiara Jewels located inside Nakumatt Lifestyle building purchasing the expensive jewellery.

The initial cost of the gold chain with his name engraved on it, was said to be a whooping Sh 3 million but he claims it cost close to Sh 2 million. He claimed that it was a token of appreciation after he oversaw a successful rescue mission of a family trapped during the tragic Westgate attack.

“First of all I didn’t not buy the chain from own pocket or from the public coffers. It was a simple gift from one of my friends. It cost Kshs 1.95 million. It was a token of appreciation after I oversaw a successful rescue of his family members who were caught up inside Westgate mall last year.I never asked him for anything and I was equally surprised by his gesture.”  Sonko told The Star.

Since then, we’ve become very good friends. He is among some other friends who appreciate me for helping others. So, this chain should not cause alarm on anything. It’s just a gift.” He added.
