We know him as president Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin but the world knows him as the Rage Against the Machine guitarist, Tom Morello. Acoustic folk rock is his genre of music and word on the street has it that Tom is planning on making his first solo rock album.
In a recent interview with Billboard.com, Tom, who has released three solo acoustic folk rock albums as the Nightwatchman, said his recent work with Bruce Springsteen inspired him to fuse his two distinctly different musical styles together: “The first time I ever sang with an electric guitar in my hands was ‘The Ghost of Tom Joad’ [with Springsteen] at the Anaheim Pond in 2008,” Tom recalled. “Until then I’d kept my folksinging career and my electric guitar shredding career completely separate.”
On recording the new solo album. He said: “I want to make the craziest guitar record that anyone’s ever heard. The idea is that this is the Hendrix of now.”
He added that he has a large group of songs for the solo album already written and he plans to record them after the tour with Springsteen ends March 2.
