Over the weekend, tens of thousands rugby lovers flocked the now towering Machakos County for the much publicized three-day festival, Masaku 7s.
Lewd photos from the event greatly spoke about the notoriety that went down in the county, earning itself another tag, ‘sin city’. This prompted the NACADA boss to advocate for its ban, breaking hearts of many revelers.
Away from the notoriety aspect, it was booming business for all people in the county. According to The People newspaper, Machakos County raked in more than Sh50 million in earnings.
This was confirmed by the county’s governor Alfred Mutua who said in an interview. “The county, in conservative estimates, accrued over Sh50 million in earnings from the throngs of fans who attended, both to small and large businesses.”
