Security has been beefed as forces are working round the clock to secure the island where the Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) is taking place.
This comes after a terrorist attack that saw one person die and a few others critically injured. The Friday bomb attack at the otherwise peaceful Island took place as international filmmakers started arriving for the one week festival. The festival kicked off on Saturday with top film stars among them Kenyan Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o expected to attend.
According to deputy police commissioner, Yusuf Ilombo, the attack was carried out by suspects who threw a hand grenade from a moving private vehicle. However, investigations are at advanced stage to find out who carried out the attack and their motive.
