May 2, 2014

Sauti-Sol-Deum-MagazineWhile most people are still hitting that replay button on Sauti Sol’s new video Nishike, the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) nominees have spoken up about the video and their nomination in MTV’s toughest category.
The Kenyan afro pop boy band has been nominated as Africa’s Best Group and are the only nominees from the East African region. Speaking about the delight of the news, one member of the group, Mudigi Savara had this to say: “Being the only group in East Africa makes us feel honoured. It’s a good opportunity for Kenyans to represent East Africa well. Most times, East Africa’s sound hasn’t been defined as unique enough and we (Sauti Sol) are one of the groups that will define the East African sound. I am so proud that Sauti Sol are pioneers of the new East African sound that will stay forever. We hope to leave a legacy and push the East African sound worldwide.
Our new song “Nishike” and the new album, as a whole, depicts exactly that—telling African stories through song. We will live and die in Africa.” he added
Bien on the other hand had this to say about Nishike: “We are not releasing this for us. It’s for the next generation to feel free to express who they truly are.”
The MAMAs will be held in Durban South Africa on Saturday 7th June.
