Malaika_Firth_3Kenyan-born British fashion model Malaika Firth was in the country recently and she got to speak about being compared to Naomi Campbell.

Speaking to The Star, Malaika who has been featured in Prada’s advertisement campaign, spoke of how proud she is for her achievement as a black model.

“I’m proud that I’m the second black model, but also, I’m mixed. I’m biracial. I find it really good that I’m not white and I’m not black. It’s amazing. Naomi Campbell is so big, so for me to be compared with her is wow.”

On being booked for the Prada campaign, Malaika revealed how she was not aware that she was the second black model since Naomi Campbell.

“I was so proud of myself that Prada likes me, and I was so grateful for that. At that time, I didn’t know that I was the second black girl since Naomi Campbell. So when the campaign came out and everyone started talking about it, I was amazed. People are comparing me to this supermodel that everyone loves, and that most black girls are aspiring to be. But I want to make my name as Malaika Firth.”

Malaika also says that her modelling career has changed her.

“I think it’s really opened me up as a person. All eyes are on you when you do the shows and when you do the photo shoots. You have to know how to act around people. I used to be a shy kid in school. I didn’t know how to interact with people and now I find it so easy. Fashion has really done something great for me and it’s really changed me as a person. I’ve changed my style as well,” She said.
