etChelsea striker Samuel Etoo is set to open a football academy in Laikipia county.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held this Sunday from 11 am at Edana Primary school. The striker will however not attend the ceremony.

Construction work of The Samuel Etoo Laikipia Unity Football Academy, School And Environmental Centre has already started. The academy will include a football stadium, a pitch, four class rooms, an administration block , a girls’ dormitory for 100 students, a kitchen, a dining hall and an extension to the already existing boys’ dormitories.

The academy will provide opportunities and facilities for 40 youngsters to upgrade their football and education levels. Its main aim is to produce world class players who will also act as role models for the youth in the whole of Kenya and beyond.

Students will be selected from the Laikipia Unity League which was launched by Etoo in partnership with Zeitz Foundation. Selection will be based on football potential and  achievements in social, cultural and environmental activities.

The project is sponsored by Samuel Eto’o Private Foundation, Cameron O’Reilly Family, Guernsey Overseas Aid and Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
