VIDEO – Referee Mike Jones Dramatic Dive During Newcastle and Southampton Game

Mike Jones took a dramatic tumble while refereeing Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Southampton.
The referee intervened in a confrontation between Toon midfielder Moussa Sissoko and Saints defender Jos Hooiveld in the closing stages of the game, when the Frenchman accidentally flicked him in the face.
Jones clutched his face and fell to the ground in apparent agony, before being helped up.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said Jones had taken the hit in good spirit following a fracas on the sideline at the end of the match.
‘The ref has got a bloody nose, he is trying to patch himself up for the Christmas party,’ he said.
‘But he took it in good heart, really, I have to say. He realised it was a little bit of a flick out at the goalie, who had flicked out at him [Sissoko].
‘It was all a bit silly, but unfortunately he ended up with a bloody nose.’
The incident brought to mind Paul Alcock staggering to the ground when shoved by Paolo Di Canio – then of Sheffield Wednesday – in 1998.

The game itself saw Jay Rodriguez deny Pardew a fourth successive home victory as Southampton came from behind to claim a point.

The one-cap England international struck with 25 minutes remaining to cancel out Yoan Gouffran’s first-half effort with the Saints mounting a concerted Adam Lallana-inspired fightback after failing to hit the heights before the break.
Loic Remy passed up two glorious opportunities to end his mini-drought either side of half-time, and the Magpies were made to pay with Rodriguez equalising seconds after Steven Davis had rattled the post.
