Jose Mourinho was all smiles as he settled into his seat at Old Trafford for Manchester United’s match with Liverpool this afternoon.
The Real Madrid manager was in Manchester on a scouting mission ahead of next month’s Champions League clash and also to attend a secretive two-day managers’ seminar hosted by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, the former Barcelona manager currently on a sabbatical from the game, are among a number of big names from continental Europe expected to attend the League Managers’ Association (LMA) event.
Their presence is unusual given that the LMA exists primarily to represent the interests of managers in the four professional divisions of the English game.
It will only fuel speculation that either Mourinho or Guardiola could replace Ferguson at Old Trafford when the Scot decided to retire.

England manager Roy Hodgson was also in the stands, no doubt checking on the form and fitness of Michael Carrick, Steven Gerrard, Tom Cleverley and others ahead of England’s match with Brazil early next month.
The two managers sat next to one another, but Mourinho seemed to have an aversion to the Manchester cold, sitting with his hood up during the first-half.
