Equity Bank CEO, James Mwangi is on the verge of being named Forbes Africa Person of the Year (2012). Forbes have been conducting an online voting, to determine who the winner will be. Though the online vote does not guarantee any of the candidates the title, it helps improve the chances. Whoever among the five nominees takes it is guaranteed 25% of the final vote.
Among those in contention are: Kenya’s James Mwangi, Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, Malawian President Joyce Banda, Nigerian economist Tony Elumelu and South Africa’s Stephen Saad.
Voting started on 22nd October and will close on Thursday 1st November. As of last night, James Mwangi was leading, with almost 39% of the votes cast. Aliko Dangote comes a close second with 35 %, while Joyce Banda has 23%. The rest have below 5%.
With 2 days remaining, Dangote can easily overtake Mwangi considering the gap between their votes is less than 3000, and Nigeria’s population is 4 times that of Kenya. To prevent that, you can add your vote by clicking on THIS LINK.
