Thika road is a about to be turned to an 8 lane highway, ( not sure its a superhighway), and one of the major sections whose end has been eagerly anticipated is the Muthaiga to Pangani stretch. This is the part that will revolutionize road transport in East Africa. With a series of underground tunnels and flyovers, this section will greatly reduce traffic jams in Nairobi. In about 2 months time, the entire road should be ready for the official opening by president Kibaki and on Saturday, the Pangani underground tunnel was opened to the public. The tunnel leads to Murang’a road ( left) and Forest road (right). There is however a longer tunnel at Muthaiga that is yet to be opened.

Some of the most breathtaking sections of the new Thika road include: Ruiru and Kahawa flyovers, ruaraka (bluesprings hotel) to allsops section, Utalli expressway, pangani tunnel, and of course Globe Cinema flyover ( the highest of the flyovers).
